Originally posted March 23rd from SXSW 2024. This documentary shows that there’s a lot more to Stormy Daniels than anyone expected. This is one smart, attractive woman who, despite being porn star and film director, is fighting to defend herself against men, the media, lawyers, detractors, and, of course, Donald Trump.

Director/Producer Sarah Gibson follows Stormy around the country, on and off stage, also back stage, as she’s trying to deal with her personal relationships, keeping her daughter safe, fans and those not, on her “Full Disclosure” book tour.

Gibson does a great job capturing Stormy on camera, so candid about herself, her work, her trials and tribulations. Seth Rogan, Judd Apatow, and Jimmy Kimmel also weigh in. Executive Producers include Apatow, Susan Bernstein and Meredith Kaulfers, who were with Stormy the World Premiere we screened for SXSW 2024.

Stormy grew up on the wrong side of town in Louisiana and had to fare for herself at an early age. Her parents divorced when she was a toddler and her mother was no help raising her. When a neighbor sexually abused 9-year-old Stormy, real name Stephanie Clifford, her mother would not report it for fear of losing her daughter and more importantly, child support money.

Of course, the documentary leads to Stormy’s interaction with former President Donald Trump who she met at a celebrity Golf Tournament in 2006. By then Stormy had become a well established porn film star and strip club performer. Stormy makes clear several times in the film that she knew Trump for years but only had sex with him once when she was invited to his hotel room in Lake Tahoe. When he greeted her in a bathrobe, she says she knew what was expected.

Much of the rest of the film includes details of the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) she had to sign, which is the subject of the hush money trial coming up. Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid $130K to her (out of his own pocket, then reimbursed) to keep it quiet before the 2016 Presidential election. Trump reportedly never signed the agreement.

When it was revealed by the Wall Street Journal that Stormy was paid off to keep her quiet before the election, she retained Michael Avenatti for representation. The documentary follows Stormy with Avenatti through one harrowing situation after another. But she makes clear that as good as he was defending her in the beginning, he ended up cheating her out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in publishing fees and more.

Also documented is one very harrowing experience in 2018 when Stormy was arrested by Trump supporting police officers. She was accused of fondling patrons at a strip club. on her “Make America Horny Again” tour. But that case was quickly dismissed.

Interviews show the dissolution of her relationships with Brandon Miller and Glenn Crain who had trouble dealing with Stormy’s money problems and fame. There are some gut-wrenching, emotion sequences showing what they were all dealing with and what it takes for Stormy to reach her boiling point.

Having gone through so many court appearances and interviews, Gibson shows how savvy Stormy has become. She is smart, knows how to protect herself and her daughter, has learned a lot about law, and is no dummy. Stormy is a whirlwind.
